How do you choose between the three series?

All three series are the same engineering: 6063-T6 aluminum planks that drop into U-channel posts and compress against a gasket to form a watertight seal. They are fabricated to the measured dimensions of your opening, deploy in under 10 minutes, and store flat between storms. What separates them is finish and the scale of opening they are built for, not how well they hold water.

Start with the opening, not the tier

A standard front door, a slider, or a single-car garage is Sentinel territory, and that is where most Tampa Bay homes land. Pick Onyx when the opening faces the street and the powder-coated charcoal grey finish matters to you. Move to Titanium when the opening is wide or deep-water rated, or when it is a storefront, loading dock, or multi-family entry, where span and traffic are doing more work than aesthetics.

What “custom-fabricated” actually changes

An off-the-shelf barrier is built to a standard width and then asked to seal against whatever your house happens to be. Older Florida homes rarely cooperate: frames are out of square, thresholds slope, stucco and brick meet at odd reveals. Because each HydroDam system is cut to a measured opening, the compression seal has a continuous surface to work against instead of a gap bridged with foam. That is the difference between slowing water down and stopping it.

What the installed price includes

Fabricated, installed systems start around $1,850 for a typical single opening. That covers the site measurement, the fabricated planks and U-channel posts, mounting the posts, and a walkthrough of deploying it yourself. The number moves with how many openings you protect, how wide they are, and the protection height your FEMA flood zone calls for — a front door and a double garage are not the same job. Every system carries the 5-year warranty. Titanium is quoted rather than priced from a table, because commercial spans vary too much for a ballpark to be honest.

What happens between storms

The part people ask about least and live with most. Once the U-channel posts are mounted they stay put year-round — low-profile, painted or powder-coated to match, and on the Onyx they read as part of the trim rather than as flood equipment. The planks are what come and go: they stack flat, live in a garage or on optional wall racks, and take up roughly the footprint of a folded ladder.

Maintenance is genuinely minimal, and we would rather set that expectation than oversell it. Check the gasket for nicks at the start of each season, keep the channel clear of sand and leaf litter so the planks seat fully, and rinse the aluminum after any saltwater exposure. There is no mechanism to service, nothing to power, and nothing that expires — which is the practical argument for aluminum over anything with a bladder, a hinge, or a chemical fill.

Deploy it once on a calm day after installation. We walk you through it at handover, but the muscle memory matters more than the walkthrough: the point of a sub-10-minute system is that you can do it alone, in the dark, without reading anything.
